Donell Jones Performs 'Where I Wanna Be' Live

Donell Jones was one of my favorite artists while I was growing up because the words to his songs were so genuine and honest. You felt the same things he spoke about and it was impossible for the words not to stick in your head.

Donell recently stopped by the Mo'Nique show to perform his song "Where I Wanna Be" - a song that puts me in a zone whenever it's played.

The performance was a little shaky but his voice and the song brought back memories. R&B just might be looking up with the return of some artists. I guess they couldn't stand their radios either.

Erykah Badu Debuts 'Window Seat' On Jimmy Fallon [Video]

Erykah Badu performed her new single "Window Seat" on the Jimmy Fallon show backed by The Roots.

This song is so fly.

Speaking of fly, how fierce is Erykah's body?! I'm not sure what was going on in the pants department, then again these days no one is wearing pants on stage; but her voice, physique and might I add make-up were definitely on point.

I can't wait for her new album New Amerykah Part 2 to drop on March 30th.

Why American Idol Will Bring A Singer Back To Reality

American Idol premiered last night and of course it started with the audition period where thousands and thousands of hopeful singer's perform their best covers for the judges.

Honestly, I didn't watch the premiere last night. I have been American Idoled out for sometime now and wasn't interested in what the show had to offer this season; and you know it's bad when you don't even want to tune in for the auditions which is the most interesting part of the show besides the finale.

One of the contestants that appeared on the show was a young man who claimed to be 20 but looked 30, but I digress.

Armed and ready, Lamar went in singing Seal's "Kiss From A Rose." Keep in mind that this man said prior to his audition that he would respect the judges opinions and loved taking constructive criticism.

Boy did he lie through his teeth.

After the judges voted no to the idea of sending him to Hollywood officially entering him into the competition, Lamar started to cuss and throw a tantrum ending his stay by saying that Mary J. Blige, who was one of the judges, could not sing anyway.

All I know is that if I were one of the judges, he would've choked me because my critique would have been far worst.

It's not that he can't sing, he has potential, its that he's doing too much in one breath making it a nuisance to hear him sing especially when he's trying to belt out Seal's classic record and Stevie Wonder's"My Cherie Amour." That was what the judges tried to explain to him through his bout with cussing and singing.

Turrets at its finest.

Note to future American Idol wannabes: Behave yourself in front of company.

TV Recap: Lil Wayne on 'Behind The Music'

The music television series "Behind The Music" returned to VH1 Thursday, September 10, after a 3-year hiatus. The first episode chronicled the life of Grammy award-winning rapper Lil Wayne. The rapper that hailed from New Orleans spoke in depth about his childhood, which included growing up with an abusive father, shooting himself in the chest with a pistol at 11 years old, and getting his start in music before the age of 18.

With a joint filled with marijuana held in his left hand, Lil Wayne (real name Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) spoke about his rise out of hard-living and upgrading to the life of the wealthy. Growing up in New Orleans was not easy as made clear by the rapper and work associates that included his mentor Bryan "Baby" Williams; however, Lil Wayne managed to turn lemons into lemonade by using poverty as inspiration to earn more in life....Read More

TV Apperances: Jermih on 106th and Park...are we still mad at lightskin video girls?!

Jeremih recently stopped by 106th and Park to talk about his album and his brand new video for his song "Birthday Sex". He even goes on to address the whole "why did he use a light girl in his video" rants; are we seriously still on this?! Anyway, he said that the girl was Brazilian if that makes it any better for y'all.

My question is, when did it become a prize to be a video girl in videos? I mean, not to knock the pretty ladies that pose as gorgeous assets to the rappers and singers or their labels that hire them (because truth be told if it weren't for them, those who are superficial wouldn't pay the artist's videos any mind). Maybe there aren't darker skin girls in these videos because they have better things to do with their lives and careers (again no offense to video models) and would much rather use their brains and personalities instead of their beauty and body to get by in life.

Obviously, there is a trend in the entertainment industry where there is a certain standard to be the gem or leading lady of anything for promotional use, so why is it that a lot of us still get surprised when we don't see women that look like us in them? Y'all already know. You do understand that if it bothers you so much that there are not that many dark women on camera that you can become a producer, director, etc. or you could of course turn the TV off?

If you are concerned about how this will appeal to your dark skin princess than you need to make it a priority to minimize her time in front of the same TV set that is polluting her mind and tell her from your own lips that she is a princess and will soon become a queen. A little off topic, I know, but it irks me when we continue to rehash old habits that you know fail to die. Don't rely on the media to reaffirm your beauty folks you will find yourself disappointed

Besides, in personal opinion, the video wasn't all that anyway. His tattoo was the biz though!

Lil Kim gets the boot on Dancing With The Stars

I have to be honest, I haven't watched the show Dancing With The Stars only because it's not my type of waste-of-an-hour *No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency starring Jill Scott on HBO, now that's my type of show* , but judging by the videos that I have seen of the recap of the show on You Tube, I have been very impressed with Lil Kim's dancing skills.

Last night (05.05), she was booted from the show because of "low scores" even though she and her partner scored six-points higher than another dancing pair. Some people are calling it a TV conspiracy, can't say I disagree we saw it happen to Jennifer Hudson on American Idol. There was a shock in the room when it was announced that Kim would be the one sent home but Kim took it like a champ and bowed out with class and a smile. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, I guess.

Gotti's Way returns

Still can't get enough of that reality TV America? Well there is more on the way. Irv Gotti returns with his family and his tumultuous life on VH1's Gotti's Way 2. In the last season, we got a look into Irv's at-home life with his family and how much of a jerk he really is.

In this season of Gotti's Way things seem to be a little different; for example, Irv's wife, Deb, finally grows a back-bone. Here is the run-down of what you can expect from this season of Gotti's Way 2,

"Gotti's Way 2" will also continue to follow the tumultuous relationship between Irv and his estranged wife, Deb, by exposing their struggle to mend a severed relationship and make it functional for the sake of their family. Last season found Deb trying to pull away from Irv and begin taking steps to give herself a better life. This time around, she begins seeing a therapist in an attempt to better understand her situation and learn what she must do to begin the process of change. With help from her therapist Deb starts to gain a sense of independence, but will this new life be what she wants or is she happier with she and Irv's non-traditional arrangement?

As Irv tries to revive The Inc. and Deb ventures out on her own, they still have to come together and make things work for their family. Sonny, JJ, and Angie continue their trials and tribulations of "growing up." They may be non-traditional, but the Gotti's are still a family: Angie is dating, beginning to look at colleges and considering career choices, Sonny is developing into a talented basketball player, and JJ is still the baby in the family. This is definitely not the Cosby's or "Run's House," but life for Irv Gotti and his family is only going to be one way -- 'Gotti's Way.'"-
via press release

Makes no sense to lie to you, I more than likely will be tuning in to watch this show. People who claim that they don't watch reality TV and get a kick out of it are liars; reality TV is like a bad drug habit, you say you're going to stop and then you end up going back and taking it all in again. It's either this or HBO and I've practically watched every movie on HBO On Demand.

I always knew that Gotti was an a**hole but not as much as when I saw him on this show. Hopefully he's toned it down just a bit.

Gotti's Way 2 premieres on VH1 Monday, May 4th at 10:30 PM ET/PT.

TV Appearances: Beyonce-David Letterman

As promised, here is the video of Beyonce's performance on "The Late Show With David Letterman".

Beyonce looks like she was having a Kanye West 2008 Grammy moment in her mind; I can just see Sasha inside going "Take this, haters!"

TV Appearances: Jamie Foxx on Jay Leno

Jamie Foxx recently appeared on Jay Leno's show to talk about all things Jamie and of course the whole Miley Cyrus thing came up in conversation. In case you missed it, Jamie was being Jamie on his satellite radio show, Foxxhole, and said a few things that were deemed offensive by some people.

Now, the "some people" were not his listeners but readers on blogs and infamous gossip sites like TMZ, we all know how they like to skew certain scenarios; lets not forget, they were the one's that shelled out the big bucks to get first dibs on the Rihanna bruised and batter photos to post on their site, but I digress.

It was very big of Jamie to apologize but I don't think he really needed to. What did they expect? He is a comedian at heart and this is not the first time he's criticized people's work and their characters and I doubt it will be his last. When did it become a problem to voice your opinion? Being that she is still a child I guess somethings are off limits. But why aren't we talking about the fact that the girl is 16 and dating a 20 year old? I guess that doesn't deserve public scrutiny huh? Whatev.

TV Appearances: Keri Hilson ft. Lil Wayne-Turnin' Me On (Jimmy Kimmel Live)

Keri Hilson performed live with Lil Wayne on Jimmy Kimmel Live. One thing is for sure, Lil Wayne and Keri have good chemistry.

Speaking of Keri, can you believe someone actually went to her album release party to hate on the child?! I'll let her tell it (catch it at the 1:08 mark)....

TV Appearances: Lil Kim on Dancing With The Stars

She is really riding this "I seen Dancing With The Stars for the first time in prison" thing huh?

Kimmy looked fierce on that dance floor with her leg elongations and what not. She's a petite misses like me, but her legs looked long and fit. I loves it. And this might just be the best we've seen her in a while! I might just tune in from now on to see what she's working with on the dance floor. This is a pass.

TV Appearance: Ludacris Live on Jimmy Fallon

Ludacris is such a phenomenal artist and I am too mad that his album Theater Of The Mind didn't get the recognition it deserved; I think this was because he and Kanye's album came out on the same day and given the controversy with that album it overshadowed Luda's.

Anyhow, Luda performed live on Jimmy Fallon's new Late Night show and did a great job. The fact that The Roots are on this show will give way to a whole lot of Hip Hop acts making their way to late night TV.

T.I. on the Chelsea Lately Show

T.I. recently did the Chelsea Lately Show where he discussed his teen intervention show on MTV and also spoke about a possible farewell tour before he heads out to the big house.

That Chelsea is crazy and I love it!

Side Order: I really do like me some T.I. and I hope that just maybe he can get a chance not to go to jail. I don't know, I just feel he learned his lesson and has definitely straighten up his act.

I love this song! It makes me feel all good and happy inside :-).

Estelle to perform at the Grammy's!

According to The Press Association, Grammy award nominated artist Estelle will perform at this years Grammy award ceremony going down this Sunday, February 8th, 2009.

This is such exciting news, I really do like Estelle and think that this is the boost she's going to need. Plus, Kanye will be present and there is a strong chance that they will perform "American Boy"; I should be so lucky.

Side Order: Remember, the Katie Couric Grammy special airs tonight on CBS at 9 PM. Make sure to catch it!

Jazmine Sullivan does the Late Late Show

Here is a video of Jazmine Sullivan performing her single "Bust Your Windows" at the Late Late Show this week. I really like this girl. I feel she has a lot of talent and most importantly she can perform live which is a skill a lot of R&B artists could learn to do.

Of course with the talented one's you have the haters that sit in the winds flapping their gums. Many said she sound like Lauryn Hill, I beg to differ. She has her own sound and style and it would be nice if she was acknowledged for it.

Who is Asher Roth?

So there is this kid who goes by the name of Asher Roth that has people going bananas. I hate to do it, but he reminds me a lot of Eminem; that will most likely be one of his struggles from here on out until he proves himself.

I literally can't go anywhere without hearing his name.

Anyhow, he recently did the Carson Daly show which happened to be his very first televised performance and he seems to be very interesting; I'm not sold, yet he still seems to have my attention. Check him out.

Beyonce sings at Kennedy Center Honors

Here is a video of Beyonce singing at the Kennedy Center Honors. This is Barbara Streisand's song "The Way We Were". Beyonce did this song much justice and made it her own. I love the performance! Its calmer and less screaming, this I can deal with.

I think Bey sounds better on ballads as appose to party tracks maybe she'll give it some thought to put Sasha Fierce on punishment...forever!

Ashanti does Good Day New York

Let me just say that Ashanti looks fab! She has that glow to her. The singing has definitely improved and although there isn't anything to her voice that makes it stand out from the rest its still her. Plus, as I've said before I am more in the mood for mellow airy-esque voices after Beyonce's 5 year domination.

I think Ashanti's prob when she first started out was that her nerves got the best of her especially singing in front of crowds, now I think she is coming into her skin.

On the charts...
