Happy New Year!

We are about to kick 2009 to the curb to welcome in 2010 and with hope it will be a far better year for everyone. Even though 2009 had a lot of grief to offer with some of you losing your jobs and loved ones, I say be thankful for making it out alive with all that has transpired.

With the New Year I wish you prosperity, happiness and success. And if there is anything everyone needs to do, it is to let go of the past to make way for the future.

Because this blog focuses on how music can be food for the soul, here is an article that lists the types of food that will bring you luck in the New Year when eaten on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Have a happy new year and remember to be safe. I'll see you back here tomorrow!

Take 5

As you've probably noticed, I have been slacking majorly when it comes to the daily posting and that is largely in part due to the numerous projects I have taken under my wings paired with the stress of personal life. With that said, M.Y. will be taking a much needed 5 day break, and when I return it will be a comeback worth waiting for. Thanks for sticking it out with your girl; we all need some sort of a break sometime, well me at least.

See you in 5!

Musically Yummy celebrates its 1 year Bloggerversary!

Today marks the 1 year anniversary for MusicallyYummy.com. I started this blog on this day last year as a way to house some of my frustrations with music at the time. In my opinion, 2008 was the worst year for Hip-Hop and R&B music in terms of talented artists releasing amazing music and albums that I could play from beginning to end.

I started MusicallyYummy.com literally a day after my birthday and I have been loving writing my opinion and seeing it in print ever since. The very first post was Beyonce's video for "Single Ladies." When I first heard the single I remember thinking, "What is this sh*t exactly?" I hated the song but loved the video, who would have known that the blog would last a year?

With the blog came an onslaught of opportunities that I am so grateful and thankful to have had offered to me. A lot has happened in a year that has allowed me to grow as a person and even as a music enthusiast. Though I pride myself on knowing all there is to know about music, each day presents a new lesson about the music genres I love making me even more thankful to be doing what I'm doing.

I thank a lot of the other music blogs out there that have inspired me to throw my hat into a ring that holds over a million bloggers in total. Funny thing is, I don't do for the competition I actually do it for the love of writing about music.

I look forward to seeing many MusicallyYummy.com anniversaries.

A dedication to 9/11

It's crazy to think that 8-years from today one of the most horrific events to hit NYC took place, leaving families to mourn for the lost of their loved ones and breaking the hearts of Americans all across the country.

I was in high school when the planes hit the twin towers and 9/11 became the first day I listened to my gut and followed it. I remember that morning waking up and not wanting to leave my home. I didn't quite know why but I just did not want to go. This was weird for me because normally my seasonal laziness didn't kick in until 3 months after starting school, but I digress.

On my way to school I ended up getting off the train the stop before it headed over the bridge to enter Manhattan -- where my school was -- and went back home. After getting home and turning on the TV, I literally saw the second plane pierce through one of the towers; it was heart breaking to say the least. I was so paranoid following the event that I didn't go near the city or a train for that matter for almost 2 weeks.

On this day, I want to send out my condolences to those who have lost love one's and family members as a result of this tragic event. One of my teachers on the morning of 9/11 walked out of the school to tend to her fiance who worked in the buildings; she never returned. We are a stronger breed because of it and our love and passion runs deeper than the eye can see even if the stain of that day still remains. May they all rest in peace.

Hip-Hop video girls get no love

Karrine Steffans is back with a new book. She recently participated in an interview with a CW news station in Sacramento, California. What was supposed to be a routine interview to help promote her new book The Vixen Manual, turned into a disrespectful cordial character bash.

I'm not one to support Karrine and her decision to monetize on her loose behavior (nor am I knocking her for exposing a side of Hip-Hop some of us never knew existed) but even she deserved a little more respect.

For the "professional" journalists shown in the clip to act completely out of pocket, trying so adamantly with no success to bash her and get her all riled up while pretending to be naive to the situation, was so lame. I will say that Karrine was able to keep her cool and handle the interview (before the rude and unnecessary disconnect, what was that?) with, dare I say, class.
*M.Y. minute: And did he call her a "video rump shaker"?! That was a blast from the past, I had to remove cobwebs off of that diss.

Sorry for my tardiness

It's been pretty hectic around these parts with the sudden passing of Michael. I needed a few days off to make sense of a few things; for some reason I took his death a little harder than I expected plus freelancing projects have fallen in my lap like crazy so I had to tend to them. But all is good and it is still love.

I have been getting great support from stations like BET and VH1 who have been playing his video's nonstop all weekend. It really is amazing how great of an artist he truly was, I personally knew it all along and I am glad that everyone is showing him mucho mucho respect. This coming week I will be back in full effect, but until then I have a special treat for you.

Jay-Z will be premiering his new video for "D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tunes)" tonight after the 2009 BET Awards only on BET and I got my paws on the trailer for it. Make sure you stick around after the show to catch the full length.

F.Y.I. the Awards will air live tonight on BET at 8 PM ET/PT.

I am Friday M.I.A.

Hey Y'all!

I am going to be missing in action today for reasons that are very valid, I pinky promise. I have a few freelancing projects I need to complete for their deadlines (which is the reason why posts have been a little slow and late this week) and I need to spend a little more time finalizing them.

Anyhow, by next week everything will be back in order and I can return to blogging like the music nut blogger that I am. Because I adore you all, I thought I would hit you up with some blogs that you might find interesting. Enjoy them and add them to your blog reading routine, they are mos def worth it. Have a great weekend everyone!

Rihanna covers People Magazine

Rihanna covers People magazine's newest issue.

M.Y. would like to wish Rihanna a very Happy Birthday. The singer/model turns 21 today and what a way to remember a milestone birthday than to have your picture of you bruised and battered all over the world wide web.

I personally opted not to post the picture on M.Y. simply because this is not a tabloid website, my heart ached, and because of the severity of the situation. Whomever released it needs to be relieved of their position in the LAPD.

Instead, I will post information for those of you who are involved or who know of anyone who is involved in a violent relationship whether they be male or female.

Here is the phone number for the National Domestic Abuse Hotline, the number is 1-800.799.SAFE (7233). The hotlline is available 24/7 365 days of the year and in 170 languages.

John Legend sets the NY Post straight! + See how you can too!

Here is an open letter that John Legend wrote to the NY Post that I snagged from Highbrid Nation, in response to their monkey comic that was obviously taken as a disrespect to President Barack Obama and to many of their readers and anti-readers,

Dear Editor:

I’m trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?

If that’s not what you intended, then it was stupid and willfully ignorant of you not to connect these easily connectable dots. If it is what you intended, then you obviously wanted to be grossly provocative, racist and offensive to the sensibilities of most reasonable Americans. Either way, you should not have printed this cartoon, and the fact that you did is truly reprehensible. I can’t imagine what possible justification you have for this. I’ve read your lame statement in response to the outrage you provoked. Shame on you for dodging the real issue and then using the letter as an opportunity to attack Rev. Sharpton. This is not about Rev. Sharpton. It’s about the cartoon being blatantly racist and offensive.

I believe in freedom of speech, and you have every right to print what you want. But freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. You are responsible for printing this cartoon, and I hope you experience some real consequences for it. I’m personally boycotting your paper and won’t do any interviews with any of your reporters, and I encourage all of my colleagues in the entertainment business to do so as well. I implore your advertisers to seriously reconsider their business relationships with you as well.

You should print an apology in your paper acknowledging that this cartoon was ignorant, offensive and racist and should not have been printed.

I’m well aware of our country’s history of racism and violence, but I truly believe we are better than this filth. As we attempt to rise above our difficult past and look toward a better future, we don’t need the New York Post to resurrect the images of Jim Crow to deride the new administration and put black folks in our place. Please feel free to criticize and honestly evaluate our new President, but do so without the incendiary images and rhetoric.

Sincerely,
John Legend

I applaud John to the up most extent. Let this be the first step for all Artist/Celebrities a like to use their voices for good and to, I don't know, make a change. Kudos John!

John has taken the lead on a situation that we all need to follow suit with.

If you too were offended by the offensive comic, the time has come for you to let them know that you were not feeling it using that intellect and grace that you have. You can call the Federal Trade Commision @ 1.877.382.4357 to voice your complaint.

And for those of us that reside in the NYC area it is time for us to get acquainted with our Senators shall we. Here are their information:

Side Order: Where is Jay-Z and Beyonce or any other rapper who was partying it up the night of the inauguration? Are they waiting to see what everyone else is going to do first before they make their move like they did when Barack ran for the Democratic nomination? I'm just sayin'...

Kanye West the author?!

Kanye West is gearing up to release a book chronicling the creation, a behind the scenes look and the performing aspect of his very successful and eccentric tour The Glow In The Dark Tour. According to Hip Hop DX, Kanye is teaming up with a New York Publisher that goes by the name of Rizzoli to release Kanye West Glow In The Dark.

Because during the tour, fans were banned from bringing cameras and capturing images of his Star Wars-esque show he now wants to release a book so that fans can quench their thirst for more Kanye.

Kanye sure is dibble dabbling in a little bit of everything these days. Next thing you know, he might just put out a magazine. Hey why stop there why not build your own car Kanye! And call it the Kanye spaceship. Either way kudos to him! The tour was something very different and phenomenal and deserves it's own book. I love to see people strive for the stars and this man clearly knows no limits.

The book Glow In The Dark will hit store shelves in October. It will retail at $50.

Kanye...is that your ego?!

I wish I could say something bad but I don't know, Kanye's cockiness makes me giggle. Plus, I don't think it's a laughing matter when a patient is taped hours before taking their meds...

I've gotten so many emails about this diss song! Yes, Yes I've had it for a while; I just didn't think it was worth posting because honestly, I've been annoyed with their little beef that I feel they need to grill up and eat already.

Anyhow, here is the Joe Budden "Saigon diss", enjoy.

Joey's album "Padded Room" comes out February 24th. Thanks Almalgam Digital!

Happy New Years!

2008 is officially a wrap and it really has been fun. Thank you so much for your support this year and I hope you will continue to join me next year for my countless rants and outlandish tongue tough opinions and views on my favorite drug, music.

Thanks for all the e-mails and I look forward to you all sending me more tips, suggestions, and just for the heck of its :-).

Remember, you can always catch me on my column at examiner.com. Speaking of which, check out my article, Hip Hop in 2008- A year in review.

Side Order: (sigh) The last side order of the year..and its a question! What song do you want to hear at the stroke of midnight?! Here's what I want to hear...

Just Dance ft. Colby ODonis - Lady Gaga

SEE YOU IN 2009!!

Too many Diva's!!

*Yawn* the first Diva annoyed me...this annoys me just a bit more..smh

Louis Farrakhan talks BET, rappers, and more

Whew!! So I somewhat agree with what Mr. Farrakhan is saying. BET has truly become something out of the ordinary and have become a true embarrassment and you already know my take on most rappers. Check out the video you might learn a little something. Check out the Oscar talk at the 7:20 mark. Controversial he is but a liar he is not; a good majority of the things he says are true.

Side Bar: All of these videos coming out with ministers talking about other things besides Jesus and God...where were they when I was a frequent visitor to the church? Church has become the hot spot for discussions that interest me now lol.

A holiday message from Diddy

[insert eye roll and disappointing head shake here]

...ATTENTION: DIDDY!!! ATTENTION: DIDDY!!!

If you knew anything about Jesus as you claim to know, you would have known that he wasn't born on Christmas, scholar!! I know this may sound a little crazy and may be new news to you, but ummm not everyone celebrates Christmas which is why people say happy holidays. Oh and guess what?! there is no Santa..I know shocking.

Because I happen to go against what anyone who's elevator doesn't go all the way up (if you know what I mean) tells me, or anyone else for that matter, Merry Christmas and HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone! :-)

Warner Music Group says "posse out"

According to Highbrid Nation, Warner Music group may be pulling out of a licensing deal with the online video mecca of the world (I should take Michael Buffer's job) YouTube. WMG wanted a higher rate on video's per play and YouTube wasn't having it (in my summation of course). My fav rappers Lupe Fiasco and T.I. both call WMG home to their music. What does this mean? All video's of artist who are under the WMG contract will not be posted on YouTube meaning unable to be viewed...NO LUPE??!!!

Personally, I think it is just the music business where music publishing companies, record labels, and artists always want more money than they already have. We are evolving as far as how we acquire and listen to music and so should the way artists and publishing companies get payed. YouTube has been getting a lot more traffic to their sites in recent years being that people now tend to watch music videos online more than on TV; that and everyone is obsessed with getting or watching other people get their 15 mins of fame, I'll sell mine if anyone is interested lol a sister got bills.

It is only fair that YouTube pay publishing companies more per video play because that will be another avenue for songwriters, artists, and said publishing companies to earn money being that music channels such as BET and MTV have cut down on playing videos in exchange for the overdose of useless reality TV, how else will they collect royalties?.

There clearly needs to be a balance, so stop being cheap YouTube and stop being greedy WMG! Find a common ground because I will just go crazy without my music video's!!...even if they do suck sometimes.

To read up more on this click here.

Side Order: Speaking of Lupe I suddenly have a music craving for some Superstar so here we go...
