Song Of The Week: Michael Jackson-Rock With You

This week's SOTW is brought to us by Michael Jackson with his song "Rock With You". There is something about this song that is just priceless in more ways than one. Maybe it's just me, but when ever this song comes on, it brings joy to my heart, literally.

Rock With You - Michael Jackson

This is what I mean when I say that good music stands the test of time. No matter how many times I hear this song I still get the same exact feeling as I did when my ears were first blessed with it's sound

Song Of The Week: Amy Winehouse-Mr. Magic

Feels like it's been a while since I've picked a SOTW, forgive me for my tardiness. Without further ado...

This weeks SOTW is courtesy of Amy Winehouse with her song "Mr. Magic" off of her album Back To Black.

Amy must have been my biggest disappointment musically. When she came out I was totally staning for her. I thought she was prepared to change up the genre of R&B/Soul and bring a brand new style to the table with her soulful voice and dare-to attitude, instead she becomes a dope fiend. Of course in her defense, a lot of talented artists have not so fabulous lives and have hit rock bottom at some point in their lives, which contributes to their effortless musical talents; crazy but true.

Mr Magic (Through The Smoke) - Amy Winehouse

Amy's album Back To Black has to be one of my favorite albums, it embodies all of the greatness a music fanatic like myself can appreciate and I recommend that you pick it up to add to your collection. "Mr. Magic" is one of my favorite songs, it kind of reminds me of sitting in a Jazz club listening to a songtress that has had one too many glasses of gin and tonic pour her heart out on the mic, just brilliant.

Amy is reportedly working on a brand new album that has no release date as of yet. Here's to her following up with a chart shattering album.

M.Y. Song Of The Week: Keyshia Cole ft. Missy Elliot & Lil Kim-Let It Go

This weeks SOTW is brought to us courtesy of Keyshia Cole and her song "Let It Go" featuring Missy Elliot and Lil Kim.

Let It Go - Keyshia Cole

I L.O.V.E. this song! This is really when I became a fan of Ms. Cole. Don't get me wrong, she's been on my music radar since "I Changed My Mind" but I was feeling this song a whole lot more.

Keyshia Cole is currently on tour with her new album A Different Me.

M.Y. Song Of The Week: Faith Evans-Again

This week's SOTW is brought to us courtesy of Faith Evans with her song "Again".

Wasn't Faith on her way to becoming a legend? I could've so seen her on the same level as Mary J. Blige right now.

Again - Faith Evans

I mean, she can still come back and lay the vocals down as if it were her first time all over again but still when dreams are dissipated it's hard to get back the very same momentum. I could blame her label but it's Monday and I really don't feel like sounding like a broken record.

Anyhow, come back Faith, we need your heavenly voice girl!

Song Of The Week: Jay-Z ft. Beyonce-03' Bonnie & Clyde

This week's SOTW is brought to us by Hip-Hop's power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce with their song "03'Bonnie and Clyde". The song went on to be a hit, given the random pair up and rumored relationship, making this song the fall anthem of the year when it was released in October 2002.

Bonnie and Clyde 03 - Beyonce

Just goes to show, you can mix business and pleasure and the outcome will be you being the richest couple in Hip-Hop, go figure.

M.Y. Song Of The Week: JS-Ice Cream

Do you remember a duo named JS? Kim and Kandy Johnson, who made up JS, had a hit single titled "Ice Cream"; as a result of the success from that song, they were seen on a bunch of music shows and video countdowns on BET and beyond. A lot of people thought that they would last because of their beautiful voices and their ties with Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers and R.Kelly (who at the time was at the top of his game, this was of course pre-sex-tape).

Anyway, over the weekend their video came on and I remember thinking, where are they now? When this single came out I thought they would be the new face of R&B. Granted, they first got their start in church choirs and later tossed that to the side for a more sexier side of R&B, I still thought that they had the voices to take them far.

Ice Cream - JS

There is still room for you JS, how about making a comeback?!

M.Y. Song Of the Week: Gnarls Barkley-Crazy

This week's SOTW is brought to us by Gnarls Barkley with their song "Crazy" . When this song first came out a couple of years ago, I thought it was so genius. The beat, the lyrics, and lets not forget the video, were all ahead of it's time.

Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

Cee-lo and producer Danger Mouse really showed how magic can happen when two opposites become one. We can actually thank them for some of the much needed quirkiness in music today.

M.Y. Song Of The Week: Mary J. Blige- Be Happy

This week's SOTW is brought to us courtesy of Mary J. Blige the real queen of Hip-Hop Soul and her song "Be Happy". I was watching a VH1 special over the weekend on how R&B began and how it's evolved from the four walls of club scenes to this chart-topping genre. Out of the artists that they mentioned, Mary stuck out most to me.

The way she turned her struggle into music in the most eloquent way is amazing. She has always been real and genuine as an artist and that is the main reason why she has been able to stick around in this dog-eat-dog business and still remain the victor. Perfect example of her genuine nature is the realness but basic essence of her song "Be Happy". There is no underlining meaning to the song, it means just what it reads.

Be Happy - Mary J. Blige

Mary has been able to stick around and be the soulful entity she is even with the overflow of the R&B/Pop artists that are popping up left and right. Hopefully, there is an album on the way because we can all use a good dose of some Mary right about now.

M.Y. Song Of The Week: Ciara-Promise

This weeks SOTW is brought to us courtesy of Ciara with her song "Promise". You know when a song is a certified hit within seconds of hearing it and this song holds true to that theory. Everything about it from the beat to Ciara's sultry voice does this song total justice.

Promise - Ciara

It also helped propel Ciara's career to where it is right now. She embodied that perfect amount of sexy and she brought it to this track. I am still waiting from a song from her that can top this song.

On the charts...
