Kelis Sells 7K Of 'Flesh Tone' In First Week

After weeks of promotion and a handful of live performances on national television, Kelis' latest release Flesh Tone disappoints. The album reportedly only sold 7,833 copies according to Hits Daily Double.

Ouch.

I had a feeling that the album would flop but I didn't expect for it to flop like this. I wonder if the negative press about her recent divorce from Nas had anything to do with it.

Whatever it was, this would put a damper on any ego.

Video Premiere: Kelis '4th Of July (Fireworks)'

Here is the new video from Kelis for her song "4th Of July (Fireworks)." This song is slated to appear on Kelis' upcoming album Flesh Tone in stores July 6, 2010.

Kelis gives you fireworks, blazing flames, lighting effects, Native American inspired wardrobes... the works. It's visually appealing and more like an experience than just a video.

Kelis' eye for style is clearly on another plateau...

Unwrapped: Scans From Kelis's 'Flesh Tone' CD

Kelis' album Flesh Tone is slated for a July 6th release here in the US but the album has already hit shelves overseas.

An eager fan sent scans of the inside booklet to Rap-Up.com, showing Kelis in a bedazzled hooded dress and another of Kelis morphed into a dog from the waist down similar to an Egyptian Spinx.

I do believe that photo was to give PETA a good one two to the gut.

Album Covers: Kelis 'Fleshtones'

Here is the album cover for Kelis' newest effort Fleshtones. The album is scheduled for release July 6th.

Very futuristic, not really seeing what the cover has to do with the title. It is good, however, to see something positive from the singer following the release of information regarding how much she will be getting from Nas...I still shutter at the thought.

Kelis Performs 'Acapella' Live on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Kelis recently stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform her song "Acapella."

The song is one of my favorites at the moment which is a little surprising to me because I hate synthetic beats. But something about this song has got me hooked.

It's looking like this might be the year for Kelis. Everyone is very open to accepting the weird and unorthodox which is perfect for her being that she's been promoting that very style for years

Video Premiere: Kelis 'Acapella'

Kelis returns with something new. Here is her new video for her song "Acapella" off of her album Fleshtones that is scheduled for release this June.

Probably a few years ago I would have looked at this and thought wow how different but with everyone trying their hardest to be weird and different nothing seems to phase me anymore. I have literally gone shock-numb after sitting through 10 minutes of Lady Gaga's "Telephone."

I've always felt that Kelis was the most eclectic artist out of the bunch and this video falls right down her alley though some people have already begun saying that she's biting Lady Gaga. Truth be told, Kelis has always done stuff like this way before we even new what a Lady Gaga was.

With that said, with everyone stepping out of the box, maybe Kelis needs to be the first to jump back in it to seperate herself from the rest.

It just isn't fascinating anymore when everyone is crazy and trying to be weird.

Kelis Gets Rid Of Silver Mullet + Performs 'Acapella' Live

Kelis recently performed a gig in NYC splits and all at Club 57 over the weekend and I couldn't help but notice, with joy, that the silver locks are gone! 

If you can remember, Kelis has been repeatedly photoed out with the brightly colored mullet and it was driving me slightly crazy, especially when she paired it with a red lip. Granted it's her hair and she can do whatever it is she pleases, those damn silver strands made me nauseous. No worries though, we females are allowed at least two fashion/beauty faux pas a year so she's covered.

Anyway, Kelis' new album Fleshtones is due out this summer and already she is experiencing some success with her single "Acapella." The single has already topped Billboard's Dance Chart!

Kelis Tells PETA To Leave Her And Her Fur Alone

Kelis was recently sent a letter by members of the animal rights organization, PETA, regarding her decision to hit the streets of London in a fur hat and coat.

PETA's letter must have rubbed Kelis the wrong way, because homegirl went in via an open letter she posted on her myspace blog.

In the letter, Kelis tells PETA to back off because chinchilla and minks are just rodents and there are far more important issues in this world to worry about.

Nas celebrates the birth of his son Knight

Nas was spotted in Queens last night (07.21) celebrating the birth of his first son Knight. If you missed it the Tuesday drama, Nas was not allowed in the delivery room to witness the birth of his son.

Although it has not be reported that it was a decision made by wifey Kelis, I'm sure the thought has crossed many of minds.

Anyhow, the net went banana's yesterday when it was reported that Nas was not by his wife's side as she pushed their son out (ouch, literally). Bloggers and spectators interpreted his absense as him showing early signs of a dead beat. In the video, Nas let's y'all know not to believe everything you read unless you read here on Musically Yummy (Ok, he didn't say all of that but you get the point).

I was hoping that Kelis and Nas would reconcile after watching their son come into the world but I guess that dream needs to be scrapped and trash being that there still is some vindictiveness in action, oh well.

Kelis has gone into labor

According to TMZ, Kelis went into labor earlier this morning; she and Nas' son will be born any minute. Despite the couple's current divorce drama, Nas' lawyer assures that Nas is right by Kelis' side awaiting the arrival of their brand new baby boy.

Deep down in my romantic soul I am hoping that this moment and experience will bring the two closer together to at least have a cordial relationship for their babies sake.

Update @ 6:40 PM: According to various reports and Nas' lawyer, Nas was not allowed into the delivery room to witness the birth of his son; however, he did rush to the hospital upon hearing that Kelis went into labor. Sources say Kelis has given birth to her son

Yummy Pics: Kelis is blue

Figuratively and unfortunately literally. The expecting milkshake supplier was spotted on the red carpet at the "Four Seasons Of Hope" gala here in NYC on Tuesday (06.16) strapped with blue from head to belly topped off with matted red lips.

Not the best we've seen Kelis but she is fierce nonetheless; not all preggo's can pull a look like this off..she's wearing heels!.... Rumor has it, Kelis has been everything but mum on the fact that Nas is looking to leave her high and dry, penniless. According to reports, she says that she is broke despite Nas' riches. I didn't know Nas had "riches" but OK.

I hate to be the one to be the reality teller, but why are women still depending on men to bring the bacon home? Are we not in 2009?! You are suppose be prepared for the unexpected and on a superficial level be able to take a fella out here and there and pick up the tab at times, I'm just sayin'...

Regardless of anything, I know that Kelis will hop right back up from all of this, if it is all true. The best revenge is success, don't ever let them see you down.

Artist News: Nas is looking to leave Kelis out to dry

Initially, I failed to report on the story because I felt there were enough media outlets exhausting the hell out of it, but since some of you have been emailing me with questions or asking me about my thoughts on this issue, I wanted to let you know what I know based on the various reports.

As you know, Nas and Kelis are currently getting divorced. In said divorce proceedings, Nas is asking that Kelis receives no spousal support as well as funds to pay for a lawyer seeing as though the idea to get divorced was hers to begin with. He is also seeking joint custody of their unborn son, in an attempt according to some people, to avoid paying child support.

It really hurts my heart to know that a child will be coming into this world to parents that are separated all because they couldn't find it in themselves to work it out. I am a firm believer in marriage, which is why I always preach to know who you are marrying before you marry them, because once it is done, it's done.

It is being rumored that Nas was very verbally abusive to Kelis and that Kelis was "loose". It is also rumored that the reason why Kelis wanted a divorce was because she noticed that Nas became very withdrawn from the marriage after info came out that Kelis was involved in a sex tape with a no-name rapper.

On both angles I can see where there would be cause for a divorce but I do wish they could at least attempt to work it out. I plan on visiting this subject in the future on my column so keep a look out for it. I do wonder though, what exactly will he do with that tat of her on his arm?

Nas and Kelis call it quits!

It has been reported that Hip-Hop's sweethearts Nas and Kelis have filed for divorce.

If you can remember, there were rumors swarming that they were having problems and that there might be a divorce in the works but those were quickly brushed to the side when Nas announced that Kelis was expecting a baby boy.

According to papers obtained by Vibe, the inevitable divorce is a fact; the cause? "Dissolution Of Marriage". Apparently, there was a lot of verbal abuse and infidelity going on in the Jones' household.

Kelis is now seven months pregnant, I truly need a moment.

Back tracking a bit, I think that the supposed tape of Kelis having "fun times" with a no-name rapper, that was eventually put on blast courtesy of Wendy Williams, might have been the straw that broke the camels back.
