Milk Carton Diary™: What Ever Happened To Donnie Klang?

When Diddy announced again that he would be doing a nationwide search for a new band that would eventually be signed to Bad Boy, the first thought that came to mind was what happened to Da Band.

You remember Da Band right?

They were the first group that were signed to Bad Boy after Diddy’s first search.

Of course that was a chapter that was later closed and I was willing to see what other talent would come out and vie for a spot on Bad Boy’s roster given its history.

Out of the second search came Danity Kane and they went on to be a hot group. So when Diddy announced that he would be conducting a new search for a group but this time they would be all male, I was excited to see what would come next.

Out of that came Day 26 and Donnie Klang.

It didn’t really shock me that Diddy would want Donnie as a solo artist. He was gaining interest among female viewers – as planned I’m sure – and there was just something that stood out about him.

Though I felt that way about Donnie, I still didn’t feel that there would be much interest after the show went off the air.

I’m not sure what’s happening with Day 26 being that we haven’t heard from them in a while; I do, however, know what is happening with Donnie.

Donnie recently released a statement to Billboard.com announcing his split from Bad Boy Records. Raise your hand if you exercised your Miss Cleo and saw this one coming in your crystal ball.

In the statement, Donnie revealed that he is now working on singles with an independent label (Eight72 Entertainment). Donnie credited Diddy for teaching him the business side of the industry and said in the same breath that “it’s tough being on a label where the president of the label is also an artist.”

I’ve heard that last statement before.

It will be interesting to see how things work out at Donnie’s new label home.
