Is Jay-Z Really The Greatest Rapper Of All Time?

The ancient argument that seems to always hit a dead end has left the corners of Hip-Hop and found its way to sports TV. Wale recently made an appearance on ESPN's 1st and 10 and entered into a debate with Skip Bayless about if Jay-Z is the greatest rapper of all time.

Of course, Wale was there to defend his idol stating that Jay has had 11 number 1 albums therefore he has to be the greatest (without really saying those words exactly).

The interesting thing about the whole thing was that basketball player Jalen Rose seem to be the most qualified for the discussion explaining the difference between rappers and Hip-Hop (because there is a huge difference between the two) which was something that Wale had a small issue with doing.

I never realized how much of a Stan Wale is. Bayless pays him a huge compliment by saying that he would much rather hear him perform instead of Jay-Z, and like a good stan Wale disagreed...who does that? Even Kanye would have sopped that up with a buttered ego.

Smartest point...

Jalen Rose: "Rap is what you do on the microphone, Hip-Hop is a lifestyle. It's graffiti, it's break dance, it's lyrics, it's everything."

Interesting moment...

Wale: "He brought Hip-Hop to Oprah. He hangs with Obama."

Skip: "I don't care about that."

I have said this once and I'll say it again, there is no greatest rapper of all time because Hip-Hop/Rap is still going strong, it's not as if the genre no longer exists. There are still artists making their way in and making names for themselves. Which means that others will suggest that they are the greatest too.

There are many greats, but to designate one individual as the greatest is a lost cause, because not everyone is going to agree with their choice which usually is based on superficial points.

Rakim happens to be one of my favorites and I think he is far better when it comes to lyricism than Jay-Z. Surely, Jay would agree.

Don't get me wrong, Jay-Z is a great rapper but most of Jay-Z's lyrics are recycled creations from other artists that have also been dubbed the greatest.

In any case, Jay-Z is doing well for himself as he has made it to the White House!
