To cure my curiosity, I decided to do a little digging to find out just who this little lady is.
Her name is Bridget Kelly - a singer/songwriter signed to Jay-Z's record label Roc Nation. Bridget is 23-years old, a native New Yorker, and a graduate of LaGuardia High School For Performing Arts.
She probably looks familiar as she was rumored to be linked romantically to Jay-Z after the two were photoed together in a club earlier this year (isn't it funny how celebrities can't even grab a platonic muffin with a member of the opposite sex without having to be sleeping with them?).
Anyway, Bridget's performance with Jay-Z as Alicia's stand-in was not the first. She also performed the chorus of "Empire State of Mind" at this year's Coachella Music Festival as well as on the Jonathan Ross show.
It was a genius idea to have Bridget Kelly come out and perform on SNL as early promotion for the artist given the high publicity and anticipation of Jay-Z's performance on the late night comedy show.
Bridget's voice is very rich, she's easy on the eye and she held her own very well performing live with Jay. Plus, with Jay-Z's co-sign, we might be hearing Bridget's name quite often here on out...we've all seen what Jay-Z did for Rihanna's career and all he did was drop one verse on "Umbrella."
Bridget Kelly is currently working on her debut album.
