M.Y. Tuesday Time Machine: 1991-Summertime

Before Will Smith was the Oscar nominated Thespian and follower of Scientology, he was a Philly breed rapper that went by the name of the Fresh Prince who rapped along side DJ Jazzy Jeff. His claim to fame came via his song "Parents Just Don't Understand", but when Will and Jeff put out "Summertime", I'm sure they had no idea that it would go on to be a classic.

"Summertime" made it's debut in 1991 with a beat that was sampled from Kool & The Gang's song "Summer Madness".

SUMMERTiME - WiLL SMITH

It reached number 1 on Billboards Rap Single and Hot 100 charts. Interestingly enough, it was also considered R&B and spent a week at number 1 on the US R&B charts.

The song speaks for itself and it is sure to bring back childhood memories. All I can think about when I hear "Summertime" is the smell of charcoal from the bbq filling the air, block parties, david sunflower seeds, 10 cent ices, and of course the corner store quarter water (if you don't know about this, you better ask somebody....for real)
