If you don't already know, March is Women's History month and M.Y. wants to celebrate it with a twist. This month I will show appreciation to the women of Hip Hop and R&B.
First chica up for honoring this week is the one and only, Ms. Dana Owens a.k.a. Queen Latifah.
When the queen stepped on the scene she was practically the only female willing to take on the male-driven industry of Hip Hop. Not saying there weren't other female emcee's, but Queen Latifah had a different air about her. Not concerned with using her sexuality to get ahead and known, Latifah's music was more along the lines of "respect the female entity".
U.N.I.T.Y. - Queen Latifah
Thank you for making songs that are female empowering and self-esteem building, and most importantly music we could all connect with.
Adding actress and model/spokeswoman to her resume, Queen Latifah has inspired and has become a hero to many young women donning the eye of the tiger to break into the music industry. For that, we honor you Queen Latifah.
