M.Y. Sunday Kind Of Love: LL Cool J-I Need Love

Our Sunday Kind Of Love is brought to us courtesy of lip-licking-lady-loving Mr. LL Cool J. I got an email earlier last week from a disgruntled loyal reader that wanted to take my head off for not posting any rap songs for Sunday Kind Of Love.

Honestly, there are not that many rap songs that center around love so it is pretty tough to sift through them to find that gem called love. Clearly they need to fix that, but I guess it is a little deeper than that.

We can always count on LL to bring the love in Hip-Hop but without him is there any other artist (that are good) that center any of their lyrics around love? Do they all still think talking about love makes them appear "soft" or less than a man?

Thoughts to let ponder. Have a happy Sunday!

Hip Hop and Politics

According to Starpulse.com, LL Cool J, T.I. and Young Jeezy are being honored for their involvement in the 2008 presidential election. They raised public awareness for this election making it the highest turn out in American election history. They will be recognized at the highly anticipated Hip Hop Inaugural Ball that will be taking place next month in Washington D.C. Russell Simmons had this to say about the black tie ball,

We are celebrating the Inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States. Hip-Hop is all about transformation and it is a thrill to help make and witness history.

I was very proud to see hip hop artists getting involved in this presidential election and I believe that it also showed them that their voices mean more than records and platinum chains. Using their voices for good I think will open doors for other things that they can do to get things in order. Kudos to hip hop!

Side Bar: I wonder if Diddy is mad that he's not getting recognized? You know how he gets...

LL Cool J ft. Wyclef Jean "Mr. President

First and foremost I would like to say Happy Election Day!! The day is finally here to make history and I hope everyone got out there to rock the vote :). This video by LL Cool J is much fitting for a day like this. This has to be my favorite video from LL. I love LL I do and I admire a lot of his work but I am a sucker for video's with a message and this one speaks in volumes.

The video is a collection of memorable moments from the Obama/McCain presidential race and the words are so real. Wyclef's voice is so full of soul; every time he sings I feel like he is speaking to me and I can feel the emotion he projects into his songs. LL's rhymes were flawless and to the point. He basically had a conversation with the now president George Bush and our future president.

What stood out the most to me in the video was at the beginning where LL is reciting lines from the US Constitution. I always feel a lot of people do not know their rights and this is a great way to grab every one's attention. Awhile back, I along with a friend created a website dedicated to informing people about the laws of the US. We are a nation of laws and it is the right of every citizen to know them.

I give this video a yummy A for political informing and a fabulous video collage of a very momentous year.
