Remembering Notorious B.I.G. (1972-1997)

It's crazy to imagine that today marks 13 years since we said goodbye to Biggie who was taken away from us too soon. He was just 24 years old and yet he was so talented and a gift to music.

M.Y. Song Of The Week: Biggie Smalls a.k.a. Notorious B.I.G.-Juicy

This song is a favorite among a lot of Hip Hop lovers. Some say it inspires them and others say that they love this song because it was the voice of the people.

What I love about the song is the fact that Biggie expresses how he feels and delivers lines so effortlessly all the while describing his experiences in a way that we can see the picture so clearly.

I have to also say that it really irks me when haters try to say that Biggie wasn't nice, yeah O.K. No one did it like this man and probably never will. His choice of words and the in sync-esqu of how they appeared on a track was flawless. Listen to an entire Biggie album and see if you feel the same way.

Though I love the original "Juicy" more than the remastered version, this song still has the same affect on me; What a way to sum up life in Brooklyn through lyrics.

Its Finally Here!!

Biggie's biopic respectfully entitled "Notorious" is slated to hit theaters on January 16, 2009!! I know I'm not the only one excited about this. To add honey to my tea, my favorite actress Mrs, Angela Bassett who is undertaking the role of Biggie's mother Voletta Wallace, will be co-starring along side the handsome Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher 2002) who is playing Diddy and Naturi Naughton(former member of 3LW) who will be playing controversial rapstress Lil Kim!

I am crossing my fingers for an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination. Playing the role of Biggie will be a Brooklyn rapper named Jamal "Gravy" Woolard. The film is a joint project between Voletta Wallace and P. Diddy and is directed by George Tillman Jr.(Soul Food 2007). The film will chronicle the life, success, and demise of "Brooklyn's King" Christopher "Biggie Smalls" Wallace. Check out the trailer for "Notorious" posted above. Biggie Smalls was at the pinnacle of his career when he was gun downed in Los Angeles, CA on March 4, 1997 at the tender age of 24. Proclaimed the "King of New York", Biggie blessed us with pure musical gifts with classic albums such as "Ready to Die" and my favorite "Life After Death". Biggie was well known as the other half to the "East Coast, West Coast Rivalry" with the also demised rapper Tupac Shakur.
