Remembering Notorious B.I.G. (1972-1997)

It's crazy to imagine that today marks 13 years since we said goodbye to Biggie who was taken away from us too soon. He was just 24 years old and yet he was so talented and a gift to music.

His style was unmatched and has yet to be duplicated even though he has been gone for over a decade. Many try to recapture the style of Biggie by borrowing his lyrics or his rap persona but many have also failed.

The music he made was timeless, so much so that even today his music still plays on the radio and it is relatable not only to those who grew up in the 90's but for the new millennium babies as well.

One of the songs that still reigns supreme is "Juicy." Everyone who is a fan of Hip-Hop melt at the sound of the opening melody always prompting them to recite the lyrics from beginning to end or at least the parts that they know.

If Biggie were still alive today, perhaps Hip-Hop would be much different. The level of greatness that artists would have to strive for or even compete with would probably drive them slightly crazy, but thankfully his music still remains as a lesson and even a blueprint for many new artists to come.

Biggie didn't fear being himself and wasn't concerned with what was considered cute in a rapper. His music was the soundtrack for individuals living within the inner cities and gave hope that there was a world outside of the hood.

He will continue to remain in our memories as a major contributor to the growth to the Hip-Hop culture.
