Can Chris Brown's Career Survive 2009's Scandal?
2009 turned out to be a very challenging year for Chris Brown. The R&B/Pop artist that appeared to have it all became public enemy number one and the monster of everyone’s eye. A year before, Chris was considered the quintessential boy next door which is why many fans were left with their jaws on the floor once word got out that Chris beat his then girlfriend Rihanna to the point of bruises and swelling.
Though Chris has made an effort to try and repair his tarnished career by appearing on televised programs such as Larry King Live and ABC’s 20/20, some fans are still not convinced that he is indeed a “Changed Man.”
Is there any hope for Chris Brown in 2010?
While watching VH1’s year round-up special, one of the panelists suggested that they did not think that Chris could get back into the good graces of music fans.
It’s not too farfetched to see why some people still doubt Chris’s ability for a comeback success. Besides the fact that most have labeled his numerous apologies as insincere, the event is still fresh in our memories. It feels just like yesterday, fans were excited to see the two walk the red carpet at the Grammy’s.
Chris and Rihanna were snapped just hours before the incident cuddled-up and full of smiles at Clive Davis’s annual pre-Grammy Award party. Though there was speculation following their physical altercation that suggested that Chris did not want to attend the pre-Grammy party with Rihanna, but was forced to do so for publicity, no one was in the position to predict what would transpire hours later.
Fast forwarding to present day where Chris is still viewed as an animal and the public’s perception of him has manifested itself through Chris’s recent album sales of Graffiti.
Though the material on the album did the job of presenting a softer and apologetic Chris, the album did not experience the same success his albums before the incident experienced. Chris blamed music retailers for the poor sales; however, those same music retailers denied the accusations.
Many people are counting Chris Brown out.
In many a minds, Chris Brown’s career is similar to a crumbled up piece of paper ready to be thrown out.
Can Chris Brown’s career survive the scandal of 2009? Of course it can. As mentioned, the event is still fresh in everyone’s mind, it just happened 10 months ago. With an event such as that, it will take more than the previously mentioned timeframe to allow people to see Chris in a different light.
His decision to drop an album so soon was not the wisest decision but it wasn’t the worst. If he or his camp is looking to regain his picture perfect image, they can forget about it; then again, I doubt that they were interested in doing so, he is getting older.
There really isn’t a blueprint that Chris has to follow to regain those who have turned their backs on him. The only thing Chris can do, is continue to show that he has changed and accept the naysayers as they are, it comes with the territory of messing up.
At any rate, there is hope for Chris Brown. He has a devoted fan base that believes in his improvement and knows that he will eventually come back bigger and better.
Just think about basketball player Kobe Bryant who is now seen as the perfect American athlete who at one point lost all of his sponsors after allegedly raping a hotel employee.
Anything can happen.
