DJ Jazzy Jeff, known most for being Will Smith's DJ and for his recurring role on one of the best shows on the planet (yes, it's that serious) The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, had to abruptly stop his performance and storm off stage in Kansas over the weekend. Apparently the venue managers thought that the music was too loud; Jeff was playing Hip-Hop.
Officials from Power and Light, the venue managers, said that they simply asked Jeff to turn the music down because the amps were turned up to the max and it would have damaged the equipment (I'm sure had it been Jay-Z or Kanye West on that stage they would have had no problem with buying new equipment, but that's neither here nor there).
Anyhow, Jazzy Jeff took to his Twitter account to voice his thoughts on the matter and felt that it was more about them being racist than ruining stage equipment. He feels there was an overall discriminatory factor because he was playing Hip-Hop. Concertgoers on the other hand say that Jeff did not only play Hip-Hop he also played a little pop.
Seems a little random but I can definitely see where there is a little discriminatory factor against Hip-Hop. Let's be real, not all of the upper class (or dare I say suburbanites) pop a little Hip-Hop in their iPods to chillax....in public.
I do have to disagree that it is racist. I think that Hip-Hop has evolved into a form where we have all kinds of races calling themselves Hip-Hop so that can't stick. It does kind of make you think about the overall reputation of Hip-Hop though, I guess not everyone is down with Hip-Hop ~shrugs~. It was kind of disrespectful of them to tell the DJ to turn the music down, don't they know that actions like that are outlawed around these parts?!
On a really really side note, I heard through the grapevine that there might be a Bad Boys 3 in the works!! ~fanning self~.
